Kombucha is a delicious sparkling drink made by fermenting tea and fruits/ sugar with a SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast). This fermentation is nothing short of magic and results in the production of probiotics, healthy acids, antioxidants, B vitamins and polyphenols which have lots of health benefits!
Origin of Kombucha
Although Kombucha might sound like a new fad or a drink that has recently gained its popularity, it actually originated around 220 BC somewhere around China and Japan. It was then brought to Russia and Germany through trade route expansions and then due to multitude of its healing properties, the kombucha culture spread around the world.
So the Kultur’d Kombucha you are drinking today is not some mass manufactured soft drink, it is an ancient potion, also known as “the elixir of life”!
What does kombucha taste like?
Kombucha generally tastes fizzy, sweet, and slightly tarty but it depends on the fermentation process. While some people like their kombucha to taste like vinegar, most people find that taste very off putting.
We at Kultur’d like to make health fun and easy. Our kombucha tastes light, bright, and bubbly. It has all the benefits and properties of a kombucha but none of the yuckies. If you have ever had a bad experience with kombucha, do give ours a shot (or a sip hehe), you’re sure to fall in love!
Fun fact: Although the kombucha’s main ingredient is tea, once fully fermented kombucha doesn’t taste like tea at all! If you think a kombucha is tasting like an iced tea, its not a good properly fermented one!
